Black Lives Matter Flag Raising Black History Month Kick-off (Bangor)

February 1 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

To celebrate Black History Month, we will be raising the Black Lives Matter Flag. This ceremony follows the tradition of other student organizations and populations gathering in solidarity during recognition weeks for groups they support and belong to (i.e. Veterans Week, Diversity Week, Pride Week, Domestice Violence Awareness, & others).

This event is open to the public and will include students, staff, faculty, local community leaders, organizers, professionals, and elected officials from surrounding areas.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with what this flag symbolizes or who may have a different perspective as to what it represents, I strongly encourage you to attend and engage in meaningful discussion and dialogue.

Due to weather considerations we will holding this event in the North Pod (student dining area adjacent to food court) in the memorial union. Several remakes and addresses will be made by students staff and community members and will be followed by a solidarity march to the flag raising spot (approximately 150 yds from Memorial Union). Please feel free to bring any signs, posters, or banners that represent your organization, group, or thoughts.
