Clean Air Clean Water
September 28 @ 7:00 pm
“Join Maine Common Good Coalition for our Clean Air, Clean Water community conversations series: The first of our series is “Healing a River” a discussion about the current health, wildlife and ecological issues involved in recovering the Penobscot River. An estimated 9 tons of mercury was dumped into the river by Holtra Chem in the late 1960’s before the advent of the EPA in 1970 and the passing of the Clean Water Act in 1972. The mercury remains and has great impact on the life of the river. We are joined by: Dianne Kopec, Adjunct Instructor at University of Maine, Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Conservation Biology and Nancy Galland, a retired organic farmer who has been involved in the mercury issues in the Penobscot River for over a decade and was a key witness in the first trial that led to the mercury clean-up effort underway now. They will be sharing a wealth of knowledge about the current environmental state of the river and how it impacts the area waters and land ecology.
Come join Maine Common Good Coalition, for an evening discussion of how we as a community can restore, protect and preserve our Clean Air and Clean Water.”
