Family Care Forum (Bangor)

May 16 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

The cost of care is too high, and wages for caregivers are too low: How do we solve this problem?

Did you know that the cost of childcare in Maine is the equivalent to a year’s worth of tuition at the University of Maine? Or did you know that Maine is the oldest state in the nation and that the number of Mainers over the age of 65 is expected to double over the next decade?

Right now the cost of childcare is so high that too many families with young children can’t afford reliable, safe care. At the same time, Mainers are getting older and struggling to age independently in their homes. Families are struggling to pay for care at the time when they need it most. In both cases, care providers are struggling to stay afloat and provide the high quality care our families need at the rates they are able to charge.
It’s time for a bold, comprehensive policy to provide families the support they need to care for family members at the beginning and end of their lives and acknowledges the hard work of that care workers do for our communities. It’s time for Maine to establish a universal family care system.

Join us to discuss Maine’s new campaign for
Universal Family Care.
Meet other care workers and families, Ask questions, provide feedback, and get involved.

Please, send questions to sam@mainepeoplesalliance.org.
