Governor LePage Town Hall (Portland)
April 18, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
USM Young Americans for Freedom will be hosting a Town Hall forum with Governor Lepage. This will take place at Hannaford Lecture Hall, which is attached to the parking garage of USM. The governor will come speak about four main topics which are the budget, tax policy, welfare reform, and energy policy. These are issues that Governor Lepage has worked on since his election 2010.
Governor Lepage’s welfare reform’s have a tremendous effect on our economy. Josh Archambault of Forbes states “Maine Gov. Paul LePage’s recent welfare reforms have led to more employment, higher wages, and less dependency, according to a preliminary report published by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and the Maine Office of Policy and Management.” Welfare reform has been essential in reducing our deficit, raising median wages, and reducing depedency through the dignity of work. In terms of budgeting and fiscal responsbility, Lepage was named the most fiscally responsible governors in the nation.
The Governor will also come to speak about the effects of taxes and energy costs (policy) on the state economy. It is evident that high energy cost have been a deterrent for business growth in Maine, but also a substantial burden on the middle class and working class of Maine. Lepage will also speak about his most recent budget proposal to the legislator. At the end of his speech, Governor Lepage will have a fifteen minute question and answer session at minimum.
