Radical Listening for Social Change
September 29 @ 6:00 pm - September 30 @ 4:00 pm
Defining “activism” broadly to include those working for social change on all levels, from personal conversations to large-scale public action, this training asks some provocative questions:
· Is it possible to disagree in a way that actually brings me into closer connection?
· What is my intention – to listen, to be heard or to be right?
· How can I speak and listen, without judgments and assumptions, and still show up powerfully and honestly?
· Can I hear beneath strong words to discover shared needs and values?
· What are some NVC self-care strategies that can increase my efficacy?
This training challenges the habits that may keep us stuck in seemingly unbridgeable political and cultural divides through the lens of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), the work of Dr. Marshall Rosenberg. Designed for those with any level of NVC experience, including none at all.
Schedule: Friday evening is an introduction to basics of Nonviolent Communication. The full day on Saturday will provide instruction and exercises to experience how the principles of NVC support the important work of social change. Friday evening is offered as a stand-alone event and is also a pre-requisite for attending on Saturday.
Accessibility: Wheelchair access and parking are available at the venue. Please communicate other accessibility needs via email or phone.
