Resistance Readings with The Chart (Portland)

March 7 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join The Chart over dinner for a group reading and discussion focused on the intersection of art, gentrification, racism, and journalism: how do the stories that are told about a place shape its narratives? How are artists complicit in story-telling and how do we make our work responsibly? We’ll be reading a short essay by Taylor Renee Aldridge (http://www.arts.black/transplant-exploits-the-savior-complex-of-detroit) and applying the things we learn to the cultural, economic, and political landscape of Portland.

While it may be helpful to read the article before we meet and think about some of the things Aldridge is proposing, we’ll read the piece together in order to get comfortable speaking with and around one another, and follow that with a facilitated discussion afterward.

We’ll have copies of the reading available for you!
