Topsham / Brunswick Unity March
February 17 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
When I heard about the gun threats that happened at South Portland, Cony and the Mt. Ararat High schools last night, I was heartbroken. When I heard the news that Woodside Elementary school had to be evacuated earlier today because of a bomb threat, I knew I had to stand up and do something. Considering that all of this is happening in the wake of the horrendous school shooting in Florida, it feels like fear is taking over from all around. But we are not going to let it gain any more ground. So what do we do when tragedy strikes? We come together with our families and find solace in the strength of our bonds. These recent events didn’t affect one family or one person. Let’s all come together as one family, one community at the Topsham / Brunswick Unity March.
We will be marching down Maine Street in Brunswick this Saturday at noon. We are starting at the green bridge (the end of the bridge closest to Fort Andross) and ending at the gazebo in the park, where people will be able to light candles in solidarity with the Florida victims.
This is about community, this is to show that we are not afraid, this is to find strength and support in the people and the family that we have here in this small Maine community.
